Melissa Lum is a business litigator and transactional attorney, focused on helping individual and small to mid-size businesses flourish through strategic business planning and risk management. Her services include entity formation, contract drafting, review, and negotiation, advising and litigating employment matters, handling business purchases and sales, and representing shareholders in derivative and direct disputes. Ms. Lum is practical, strategic, and results oriented, and committed to keeping in close contact with her clients so that they can make informed decisions. She has experience representing different types of businesses, including restaurants, architects, start-up technology, and medical-based businesses. Ms. Lum also works in the firm’s real estate and insurance defense practice groups.
Education & Background
Ms. Lum received her Bachelor’s of Arts in Business Economics from the University of California Santa Barbara in 2001, and her Juris Doctorate from Thomas Jefferson School of Law in 2008. She is admitted to practice before all courts in the State of California and United States District Court for the Southern District of California.
Ms. Lum is a native San Diegan, who enjoys traveling, sports, and volunteering. She lived in London for a brief period of time, and has traveled to over 13 countries. One of Ms. Lum’s main passions is lacrosse, as she was formerly an avid and accomplished lacrosse player and coach, who had the pleasure of coaching several San Diego middle and high school teams and for private camps. Her volunteer efforts are focused on supporting transitional aged foster youth and developing the potential of women, as an active member of the Junior League of San Diego.
