John C. Demas is a versatile and skilled attorney, experienced in a number of practice areas including Real Estate Law, Estate Planning, tax, title insurance, and other transactional business matters. He is also a full-time clinical professor with the Burnham-Moores Center for Real Estate at the University of San Diego’s School of Business. He was listed as a Top Attorney by the San Diego Daily Transcript.

Mr. Demas started his career in hotel management with Westin Hotels & Resorts, which led him to the position of Assistant Controller with Camino Real Hotels of Mexico. He has extensive experience in accounting and financial analysis and has completed comprehensive due diligence for a roll-up merger and securities offering.

After law school, Mr. Demas joined the Chicago Title Company as an escrow officer for commercial closings and as an exchange officer for IRC §1031 exchanges. He later joined Stewart Title Company as their Commercial Escrow Manager. In addition to this, John C. Demas has also been a designated expert witness for escrow-related litigation matters.

Mr. Demas received his B.S. in Political Science from California State University, Fullerton in 1991; his Master’s in Business Administration from New Mexico State University in 1994; and his Juris Doctor from the University of Denver College of Law in 1998. He also received an LLM in Taxation from the University of San Diego in 2013.

John is admitted to practice in California (1999), Colorado (2002), the Supreme Court of the United States, the United States Tax Court, and the Court of Federal Claims. Additionally, he is admitted to practice before the United States Court of Appeals for the Federal, 9th and 10th Circuits, as well as all Federal District Courts in California and Colorado.


Professor Demas mentors students informally while actively being involved in campus life at the University of San Diego. He also serves on the Committee on Ethics Skills at the University of San Diego School of Business, and advises the Real Estate Society on campus.
